The half-adepti Ganyu has arrived! Did you know that Plenilune refers to the full moon, much like what she gazes upon in her hands?
With her are three four stars, Xingqiu, Noelle and Xiangling.
Ganyu is a Cryo bow unit, adept at dealing long-ranged DPS with her special charged shot, allowing her to deal massive AoE Cryo damage!
Let's start with her normal attacks!
Her normal attacks, as with all bow users, come with a normal 6-hit combo, and a charged attack. What's special about Ganyu's charged attack is her ability to have a 2-stage charge, creating a Bloom dealing AoE damage. The 2 stage charge rate is only slightly slower than other Bow's one stage charge, allowing her to be a top-tier DPS unit.
On the right you can see Ganyu's 2-stage charge dealing AoE Bloom damage.
Ganyu's skill, Trail of the Qilin, creates an Ice Lotus while moving her backwards. The Lotus deals Cryo damage upon creation, as well as taunts enemies, much like Mona's or Amber's elemental skills. When enemies deplete the Ice Lotus' health, it explodes, dealing Cryo damage once again.
Both instances of damage generate energy for Ganyu.
Ganyu's Elemental Burst, Celestial Shower, brings down icicles from the sky at a rapid rate in a large AoE. It costs 60 Energy, and has a duration and cooldown of 15s.
The targeting system works quite like Albedo's burst, random targeting with a slight cooldown to each monster being targeted. If they are all grouped together (with Venti's or Anemo Traveller's burst), the small AoE each icicle have can hit multiple enemies, dealing massive DPS.
Ganyu's Ascension 1 passive allows her to build more CRIT DMG instead of CRIT Rate, as 20% is quite a lot, especially on top of all the bonus CRIT that Cryo units can achieve from their artifact set and resonance bonus.
Ganyu's Ascension 4 bonus increases her party utility, but mainly increases her DPS capabilities even further.
Ganyu's utility passive is the Bow type passive of similar passives such as Zhongli and Diluc, allowing cheaper bow crafting but is not very useful overall.
All of Ganyu's Constellations are really good, increasing her already high personal DPS to even greater heights.
Decreasing Cryo RES is always good, while also increasing her Energy Regen. Ganyu's Burst already has a 100% uptime based on duration vs cooldown, which means that her Burst usage is mainly based around how much energy you can recharge. This constellation will help greatly with that, given that Ganyu will want to fire off as many arrows as possible, being the main DPS.
Ganyu's constellation 2 adds an extra charge of Trail of the Qilin, which increases her DPS slightly, but more importantly allows her to regenerate even more energy.
This constellation also works with her constellation 6, which will be mentioned later.
Constellations 3 and 5 are your generic Skill and Burst +3 constellations.
Constellation 4 allows Ganyu to bring some extra utility to her team, while allowing her to deal even more damage.
Note that increased DMG is added onto your existing DMG% increases, which means that your total damage will not be multiplied by 1.25x.
However, this damage boost is significant and welcome nonetheless.
Ganyu's final constellation allows one free fully-charged shot without charging every time she uses her Elemental Skill.
This synergises with her constellation 2, allowing Ganyu to deal high burst damage with Trail > Attack > Trail > Attack combos.
Therefore, this constellation unlocks a separate playstyle of Ganyu, which is a quickswap playstyle, where Ganyu will swap in and deal high amounts of damage, before swapping out and waiting for her charges to regenerate.
Thoughts on Ganyu
Ganyu is strong. Really strong. Ganyu has a plethora of bonuses coming her way, from the extra Talent CRIT Rate, to extra Talent Cryo DMG, to being able to Melt hits (given a support like Xiangling). She also has access to the Cryo Artifact set, which grants even more CRIT rate.
We recommend using her as a main DPS, not as a support, with Constellation 6 opening up a quickswap DPS playstyle. Support Ganyu doesn't have strong enough Cryo application to enable Pyro carries to Melt properly, unfortunately.
But enough about that, we'll discuss her Bow and Artifact set in another post!
