Albedo's banner has arrived, lasting from 23rd December 2020 to 12th January 2021. The genius alchemist is a Geo sword, bringing with him decent sub-dps and support capabilities on fairly low investment.
The four stars featured are Bennett, Sucrose and Fischl, who are very strong in their own right, so go for this banner while you can!
As many people will tend to build Albedo as a off-field turret type support, his normal attacks probably won't see much use.
His elemental skill, Abiogenesis, creates an area in which damage taken will trigger a Geo blossom which does damage on a 2s CD, as well as an elevator in the middle of the circle. Holding his elemental skill will allow you to decide where to place his construct, just like Geo Traveler. His skill has a low CD and high duration, allowing 100% uptime and ease of changing its position.
Riding his elevator allows you to make use of his Constellation 4, which increases Plunge attack damage.
Note that anybody on Albedo's team can trigger this extra Geo hit, and that it does not work on shields, as monsters do not take damage. Tests have shown a rough 60-70% energy generation rate per blossom.
Albedo's burst does an AoE Geo damage burst at 40 energy, and also triggers 7 Geo blossoms similar to the ones created in his elemental skill if you use his burst while his skill is up. Geo blossoms target one monster each, although each blossom may hit more than one monster due to the small AoE. The remaining blossoms hit randomly within the circle.
Albedo's A1 passive adds more damage to the blossoms created by his elemental skill.
Albedo's A4 passive allows him to bring even more utility to his team, adding 125 Elemental Mastery to his team by using his burst.
Albedo's passive is similar to Mona's but has a slightly higher expected return than hers, allowing you to craft more upgrades of Weapon Ascension materials.
Constellation 1 for Albedo allows him to generate energy for himself rapidly, not requiring another Geo member on the team to keep his burst uptime.
Constellation 2 increases Albedo's Burst damage by his DEF. This Constellation allows you to stack DEF without compromising your Burst damage. Note that this constellation does not affect anything else.
Constellations 3 and 5 are generic skill and burst level upgrades.
Constellation 4 is a headscratcher: do people use plunge attacks in fights regularly? Maybe Xiao will find a use here.
Finally, Albedo constellation 6 increases his support utility, allowing him to increase party damage by a significant amount. Crystallize shields are often generated due to his elemental skill, and should have no trouble keeping 100% uptime.
Conclusion
Albedo is a decent supporting unit that can fit into any team composition, adding Geo damage and crystallize shields that will not eat up your elements when you try to use them for reactions. He also seems to be fairly low investment to start out, dealing decent sub-dps and providing good amount of utility, but more on that in the next post - Albedo builds!
